Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 34 years old. I have had a fever and a cold for three days, with no improvement in health. Kindly suggest suitable medicines for relief. What should I do?
Kindly advise.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
The symptoms you described are most likely due to a seasonal cold, which is usually caused by a viral infection. This commonly leads to fever, runny nose, mild body ache, and throat discomfort, and often improves on its own with basic care.
For relief, over-the-counter Paracetamol and an antihistamine such as Cetirizine can be taken. These help reduce fever, body pain, and cold symptoms. It is important not to exceed the recommended dose.
I would suggest the following:
Drink plenty of fluids such as water, soups, and warm herbal drinks to stay hydrated, take adequate rest to support the body’s natural healing process, and consider warm fluids or steam inhalation to help relieve nasal congestion and throat discomfort.
Acetaminophen 500 milligrams can be taken, not more than three tablets in a day.
Cetirizine 10 milligrams can be taken once daily for five days only.
Avoid other painkillers such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or Aspirin.
These symptoms usually improve within a few days. If they persist or worsen, further medical evaluation may be required.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
