Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have noticed a glow on the right hand with my left eye. Could this be the light reflection or is this something I should get tested? My last eye test cancelled due to some reason. Kindly guide.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Is the appearance of a glow radiating from the corner of the cornea? I had a look at the photo (attachment removed to protect patient identity). It is a little blurry, but it does look like an illumination from inside to the outside. I am not sure if it is an artifact from the photograph. It would usually occur during an examination procedure called transillumination. This might indicate a weakness in the area between the cornea and the white of the eye called the sclera. I suggest you examine your eye again tonight in a completely dark room by shining a torch into the pupil and observing if it is still there. Thinning of the sclera can occur in certain conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and other collagen vascular disorders. Do you have any joint pains, neck pain, dry mouth, or dry eyes? Another thing you need to do is shut the other eye and see if you observe a dark curtain or a shadow or missing area in your side vision (visual field) to rule out a retinal detachment or a growth inside. If you have any of those things I mentioned above, please see an ophthalmologist as soon as you can. I hope this helps.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I did the darkness torch test and I believe its the lighting that created the glowing. Thank you for putting my mind at ease. When COVID-19 dies down a bit I will book and eye test.
