Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
What can I give my 20-month-old child with severe acute diarrhea for three days? He has no fever and no vomiting. He is drinking plenty of fluids and milk and eating relatively well. Just immense nonstop watery diarrhea. Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
1. There is a sign of dehydration (baby not passing urine), then the child needs fluid resuscitation, for which the child needs to be admitted.
2. Add zinc supplements, syrup zinc 10 mg once daily for gut immunity.
4. Give Enuff sachet (Racecadotril) half sachet to be diluted in a glass of water three to four times a day.
5. Continue oral rehydration solutions (water, glucose, sodium, and potassium), replacing the volume of stool passed (If 10 mL stool pass, give accordingly).
6. If Loose motion persists, do stool examination with hanging drop microscopic examination.
7 . Review the report.
I hope you find it helpful.
Kind regards.
