Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I had a whitehead extracted two days ago. Afterward, it formed a scab, but the scab fell off earlier than expected, leaving a small crater-like area.
I am not sure if it is infected, but it is slightly sensitive. Currently, I am applying Mupirocin ointment twice a day.
Please suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Thank you for sharing the detailed pictures (the attachments were removed to protect the patient’s identity). I can clearly see that the whitehead has been removed, and there is now a small scar. From the images, it is evident that the area is healing as expected, and there is nothing to worry about.
There is no sign of infection or significant inflammation, which is reassuring. First of all, please stop using Mupirocin cream, as it is not indicated for facial use, especially for this type of scab. Continuing it may unnecessarily irritate the skin and delay natural healing.
Apply a gentle moisturizer and use Clindamycin one percent gel on the affected area, both day and night, for at least seven days. Along with this, cleanse your face with a gentle, non-foaming cleanser.
Avoid using harsh scrubs, Salicylic acid products, or even sunscreen for at least a week, as these can interfere with healing and irritate the sensitive area.
This should heal on its own within about a week, and there is no need to worry. There are no signs of infection or significant inflammation, so you do not need to apply strong topical antibiotics; Clindamycin is the drug of choice for the face in this type of situation.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
