Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have white patches in the buccal mucosa, which is painless, and I used to smoke. What is the reason?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen the picture enclosed (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). Do not worry. It is not a cancerous lesion by appearance. However, I need to assess your medical and drug history to know what has caused this lesion suddenly. Because some white lesions of the oral cavity tend to be precancerous, too, you should maintain strict oral hygiene. Get regular scaling done by a dentist in the clinic and avoid too hot, hard, and spicy foods excessively. Also, lukewarm saltwater rinsing and a Chlorhexidine mouthwash will help prevent these lesions.

I am not done with your treatment planning as I need to know what is your smoking history. How many times do you smoke a day? Is it tobacco smoke or weed, or anything else? And did you observe these white patches a few months or years before?

Let me know. Glad to suggest you the correct treatment and prophylaxis to get rid of this lesion. If I suspect it is more than just an ordinary white lesion after examining your answers, I will have to suggest further investigation. That depends.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
