How to manage light spots on the forehead in children?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My child is having this kind of spot on the forehead. He is 12 years old and healthy. He has dry skin, and he sweats a lot.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

Differential diagnosis for your son’s condition could be pityriasis versicolor or pityriasis alba. I suggest you follow these instructions mentioned here:

  1. Adopt a good skin care routine.

  2. Apply Eumosone cream (hydrocortisone) at night for 15 days.

  3. Apply Emoderm cream or Physiogel hypoallergenic cream in the daytime for two months.

  4. Moisturize skin frequently.

  5. Avoid activities that cause sweating. Zincovit syrup 3 ml twice daily for six weeks.

  6. The cause of pityriasis alba could be dryness, nutritional deficiency, vitamin deficiency, zinc deficiency, or contact with an irritant chemical. Avoid the use of harsh soaps.

  7. Sweating can cause Malassezia furfur infection (superficial fungal infection possibly due to excess sweating). Maintain proper facial hygiene.

  8. Eliminate known triggers.

  9. Avoid stress, relax, and make yourself stress-free.

  10. Eat healthy and nutritious food. Follow the above-mentioned treatment plan.

  11. If itching persists after seven days, take a tablet containing Levocetrizine 5 mg at night.

So, I suggest you use Eumosone cream (hydrocortisone) on white patches for 15 days. Zincovit syrup for six weeks. Use a good moisturizer. If dandruff issues occur, use Ketoscalp shampoo twice weekly for four weeks. I suggest you follow up after two weeks.

I hope that this answers your query.

Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

He had this only between the eyebrows and on the forehead, which I already attached in the picture. Otherwise, he has this kind of spot above his eyebrow after swimming (for about a year, but we stopped his swimming within a week). Right now, he is not swimming. I apply moisturizer regularly, but it is still there. It is not white, but it is light in color.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

  4. Use a good moisturizer.

  5. Apply Physiogel hypoallergenic cream twice daily for 20 days.
