Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am struggling, especially with the winter season hitting hard. I am an elderly person, and it feels like the cold weather is making everything worse. I have caught a nasty cold, and it is hitting me harder than usual and I am worried about potential complications. Are there any specific precautions or treatments for an elderly person like myself dealing with a cold during the winter? My age is 62 now. Please, I need some guidance on how to navigate this cold season and take care of myself better.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq, and thank you for choosing us as your provider for health care.

I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.

Keep well-hydrated. Take plenty of warm fluids. Wear weather-appropriate clothing. Warm water saline gargles. Steam inhalation. Take lots of green leafy vegetables and fresh whole fruits, balanced well unless otherwise contraindicated. Take a warm diet. Stay away from alcohol, smoking, fried, oily, junk, sweets, and packaged food addictions. Inculcate healthy habits in the family as well. Get physically examined and investigated regularly to rule out any medical conditions and treat them accordingly. Check vitals regularly. A course of antihistamines will help for cold unless otherwise contraindicated. Please provide me with answers to the following questions.

  1. Any nasal discharge?
  2. Any blocked nose?
  3. Any throat pain, cough, or fever?
  4. Are you allergic to any medicine?
  5. Are you currently taking any medicine?
  6. Do you take any medicine for BP (blood pressure), sugar, thyroid, heart, or cholesterol ailment?

Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further.

Thank you.
