What is the recovery duration for post-extraction tingling?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had a surgical removal of wisdom teeth and cyst within one week. I have mild tingling sensation in the lower jaw for the past two days.

I did a root canal in the adjacent tooth five years ago. I took a CT (computed tomography) scan and took Renerve Plus capsules.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It has been a week after your surgery, and by now you should be alright. A mild tingling sensation indicates that the jaw nerve is still vital, but it needs to be revitalized by antibiotics and antioxidant therapy.

Send me your reports so that I can suggest medications.

I hope it helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

My reports are with the doctor. He told me it is nerve damage due to nerve exposure during surgery, which can regenerate in one or two months. There is no difficulty while eating or speaking.

I have numbness in the chin, lower lip, and lower teeth on the right side with mild pain.

Should I be concerned?

Kindly suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Third molar extraction causes numbness and injury of the inferior alveolar nerve supplying the lower jaw. Follow the steps below:

  1. Take tablet Neurobion Forte (vitamin B complex) once daily for three months.
  2. Do mouth exercises like opening and closing as wide as possible.
  3. Gargle with warm salt water several times a day to prevent oral infections.

Review after one week.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
