Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I had my period in the mid of the last month, and I am bleeding again. I took an emergency pill towards the end of last month. I am under medication for thyroid issues. Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
According to your description, this could be withdrawal bleeding. Withdrawal bleeding usually occurs after taking an emergency contraceptive pill within two to seven days. It is normal there is nothing need to worry about. It may be present for two to three days. There can be fluctuations in your menstrual cycle as well.
I hope this information will help you. Please revert in case of further queries.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
But that does not mean that the pill was ineffective right? Do I have to take a pregnancy test at the time of my next cycle?
Thank you.
Hi,
Once more, thank you for allowing us to be of service to you.
We value the high level of confidence you have in us!
The bleeding does not indicate anything about the pregnancy and will not say whether it worked or not in preventing pregnancy. However, as per the details provided, it was your safe day, so, there is very less chance of becoming pregnant. So there is no need to worry. Your periods might get delayed due to hormonal changes. I would suggest waiting two weeks after your expected date. if you do not get your period by then, do a urine pregnancy test.
I hope this information will help you. Please revert in case of further queries.
Thank you.
