Which sedatives interact less with Valium than opioids?

Hi doctor,

I am going to undergo a laparoscopic fundoplication surgery after a week for severe GERD. For the past two months, I am taking Valium 5 mg for severe anxiety (mainly related to my health) three times daily. I am also taking Omeprazole 80 mg daily for several months.

I recently came across a study that stated the AUC and half-life of Valium are increased by 130 % with a dose of 40 mg Omeprazole. As I am taking double the dose of Omeprazole, I am afraid that it has raised my plasma level. I am concerned about the concurrent use of other drugs (opioids) that can help me.

I need to talk to an anesthesiologist before my surgery. Is this dangerous, or are there any other alternative sedatives to opiates that would interact less with my Valium dose? Is there any increased concentration in my body? This is my first major surgery, and I am terrified. I am taking Aspirin 81 mg and Crestor 10 mg. My past medications are Lorazepam, Citalopram, Escitalopram, Zoloft, Propranolol, Esomeprazole, and Ranitidine.

Why is my wife still having pain in the area where anesthesia was administered during fibroid surgery?

Hi doctor,

My wife underwent fibroid surgery last month, but she is still experiencing discomfort in the region where the anesthesia was given. Why does this happen? Is it normal to still be in pain? Does inappropriate administration cause discomfort? What should I do about the pain? And she cannot sleep as she finds it hard to sleep in a particular position?

My father works without eating and taking rest. Is it due to manic episode?

Hi doctor,

I want to know whether my father is having a manic episode. He is aggressive always and forces his assertiveness all the time. He misses his sleep and he does not care about losing it. He is not stopping his work and not noticing it. My mom noticed it and tried to talk with him for being a workaholic. He does his work temporarily and does not stops his work. He ruined my life and many other people have noticed his intensity. He does not behave like a normal person.

He needs to very important and wants to be seen every time. He does his daily exercise countlessly. He walked in a mall for four to five hours and he does not feel exhausted. Usually, he goes for a walk for two hours daily. He feels that it is nothing for him. He swims twice a day and does things that take a lot of effort. He does not take time to eat and sleep. He does not take vacation normally and he needs his vacation to be busy. Until now, I do not like bringing things to his attention and to make him worry about them. Please tell me whether this behavior seems to be normal.

Will Midazolam reduce preoperative anxiety in a person who fears operating room and general anesthesia?

Hello doctor,

I am a 47-year-old healthy male. I wanted to go for elective cosmetic surgery under general anesthesia. However, I am afraid of the operating room and general anesthesia. I have an irrational fear that my body will start trembling out with fear. In addition, my blood pressure and heart rate may shoot up on the way to or on the operating table. Will a premedication Midazolam help me calm down before surgery and undergo surgery successfully? My blood pressure and other parameters are otherwise healthy.
