Can prolonged tobacco use and a jaw injury lead to a neoplasm?

Hello doctor,

My friend's father has been using chewable tobacco for 40 years, and he is now 60. He recently injured his lower jaw behind the lower lips. After consulting a doctor, the physician expressed concern and scheduled a biopsy for the next day. We accompanied him to the appointment. The doctor mentioned that his oral hygiene was not optimal and speculated it could be a neoplasm lesion. We are eager to know the possible diagnosis but must wait for the biopsy results, which will take 15 days. Currently, we feel quite uncertain about the situation. Kindly guide.

Thank you.

I had my wisdom teeth extracted 1.5 months ago. How long will it take for the inflammation to go down?

Hello doctor,

I had my wisdom tooth extracted (all 4) nearly 1.5 months ago and experiencing inflammation on a specific area on the side of the tongue only on the right. This inflammation causes burning pain. In the first week, when I touched the inflammation spot with the earbud, it bled. Now it is almost six weeks, and no bleeding when I touch it. I can see a white scar in the inflammation area (not sure if this is a wound healing process). My oral surgeon had to cut the bone due to my full bony impacted wisdom tooth, so not sure if this inside injury or inflammation is due to dental instruments. Also, I do not see any sores, ulcers, or abnormalities on the tongue. No sore throat, nothing. Please let me know how long this inflammation will take to go down?

How to treat swelling, irritation, and numbness in the incisive papilla after an orthodontic adjustment?

Hello doctor,

After an orthodontic adjustment three months ago, my incisive papilla was irritated, slightly numb, and swollen. I had a cleaning done and an x-ray taken by my dentist. I was suggested better flossing and mouth rinse. The issue is still there, which sometimes gets better, sometimes worse. My current medications are Zoloft, Cozaar, and Catapres. Please help.

Biopsy is advised for an oral mucocele in my upper lip. Is this a cancerous lesion?

Hello doctor,

I have what seems like an oral mucocele in my upper inner lip. I went to the dentist, and after looking at it, he said that it is most likely it is mucocele and referred me to the oral surgeon. He explained that they would remove it and send it in for a biopsy. That alone slightly worried me. Is it normal for it to be biopsied? He would mention that it needs to be biopsied. Anything potentially cancerous concerns me. It is not huge and sometimes feels bigger and sometimes feels smaller, depending on the day. I have had it for about three to four weeks now. It does not hurt. I have to wait for a week to go to the oral surgeon. I want to get an oral surgeon's opinion to possibly ease my mind a bit.
