What causes a swollen papilla after orthodontic treatment?

Hello doctor,
After an orthodontic adjustment three months ago, my incisive papilla was irritated, slightly numb, and swollen. I had a cleaning done and an x-ray taken by my dentist. I was suggested better flossing and mouth rinse. The issue is still there, which sometimes gets better, sometimes worse. My current medications are Zoloft, Cozaar, and Catapres.

The papilla is red and swollen palatally and looks like it bleeds to the touch. But it is nothing serious. If it does not cause pain or does not continue to grow, then you do not have to worry about it. It is a common complication of orthodontic treatments.
I suggest you rinse your mouth with warm saline water five to seven times daily. Try to keep the water on the upper lip and vestibular area. Also, rinse with chlorohexidine mouthwash twice daily. It is better to use water floss than traditional thread floss. This is because water flossing would keep the area clean without injuring the tissue.
