Do abortion pills cause spotting and intermittent episodes of bleeding?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I took abortion pills, and after seven days, when the bleeding has stopped but has started again after six days, it started again. Bleeding is normal and not heavy.

Is it normal?

Please advise.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Induced abortion by medications is actually hormone-induced miscarriage, and it has side effects of hormones. Everyone's body responds to hormones, and it depends on how the individual body responds to them. Abortion-induced tablets can give side effects of spotting, unscheduled bleeding, mood variations, weight gain, etc.

You can have one transvaginal scan to exclude the need for dilatation and evacuation. Wait for the scan report, and do not take hormones further. Let us disturb natural body hormones by externally induced hormones to come to normal. In case of heavy bleeding, abdominal pain, dizziness, and fainting, immediately report to the hospital. Check on general condition and wellness.

I hope it helps.

Thank you.
