Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am 56, male, and have had type 2 diabetes for 10 years. I am on Metformin and Semaglutide, and my A1c is around 6.8 %. I recently started having acid reflux and occasional chest tightness after meals. Could this be related to the diabetes meds or gastroparesis? Are there diabetes-friendly diets that help both reflux and blood sugar control?
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
I am sorry to hear about the difficulties you are facing with acid reflux and chest tightness. These symptoms could be related to your diabetes medications or gastroparesis, a condition that affects stomach emptying and is common in people with diabetes. Metformin can sometimes cause gastrointestinal issues, and gastroparesis can lead to similar symptoms. For managing both reflux and blood sugar control, consider the following dietary tips:
1. Eat smaller, more frequent meals: This can help prevent blood sugar spikes and reflux.
2. Avoid trigger foods: Spicy, fatty, and acidic foods can worsen reflux.
3. Stay hydrated: Drink water throughout the day, but avoid large amounts during meals.
4. Choose low-glycemic foods: These help maintain stable blood sugar levels.
Please book a consultation with me if you would like more detailed information on any of these points.
I hope this information will help you.
Thanks.
