Patient's Query

Hello, doctor,

I am a 19-year-old female. I have blackheads and some acne, particularly around the chin, but they are not very noticeable. My main concern is acne scars and having unclear, blemished skin. What can I do? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concerns. Acne is a chronic problem that can have a variable course with medication. It requires regular follow-up and long-term treatment. Typically, acne occurs until the age of 25 to 28 years or even beyond. When acne lesions heal, they can leave behind acne scars. In individuals with lighter skin, these acne scars heal with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) for a short duration. However, in individuals with darker skin, PIH can persist for a longer duration, possibly two to three weeks. This duration can be reduced by using depigmenting cream, sunscreen, and practicing sun protection. You can use a depigmentation cream or gel Adapalene 0.1% every night, and apply a non-comedogenic sunscreen with SPF (sun protection factor) 50+ in the morning after bathing. Remember to reapply the sunscreen once every four hours. In addition to these measures, it is important to make certain dietary restrictions, such as avoiding oily, spicy, junk food, milk products, and non-vegetarian foods. Stay hydrated by consuming plenty of water, as it helps hydrate your skin. Also, use a good quality face wash to cleanse your face twice daily. Avoid using hair oil, as it can worsen acne on the forehead.

I hope your queries are resolved and any further queries are welcome.
