How do I manage pus-filled pimples in my beard area?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 25-year-old male. Many years ago, my facial skin was damaged and had many spots. But one week ago, in my beard area, small pimples appeared with white pus, and they are painful. What can I do to manage this?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Based on your history of painful, pus-filled pimples and the picture (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity) showing inflammatory acne appearing in the beard area, you are having inflammatory acne vulgaris. Do not worry, I will get you through proper management. To manage the active lesions:

  • Start taking the tablet Doxycycline 100 milligrams once daily for 30 days, which helps reduce inflammation and bacterial load.

  • Alongside this, apply Adapalene and Clindamycin gel in a pea-sized amount to the affected area at night.

  • To reduce irritation, apply it under a gentle moisturizer, such as a sensitive skin moisturizer.

In the morning:

  • Regular use of sunscreen is important to prevent post-inflammatory pigmentation and protect the skin.

This regimen should be continued consistently for at least four weeks to see improvement.

  • Avoid shaving too closely.

  • Do not squeeze the lesions.

  • Keep the area clean and well moisturized to support healing.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.

Thank you.
