How to manage acne?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have acne-prone skin and I have been treating acne for years back. I want to know, if I can use Vaseline petroleum jelly on my body and face or can you recommend a moisturizer.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I am very sorry about your medical condition and I am glad that you are paying attention to changes in your body system. But do not worry. I am here to take care of you. Regarding your symptoms, I believe you have developed an acne vulgaris possibly due to hormone imbalance or cosmetic changes. Any itching, swelling, or use of contraceptive pills? Please do not use the vaseline jelly. It will make it worse.

I advise you to do the following things. These include:

Tablet Minocycline (Minocin) (antibiotics) 500mg to be taken orally, thrice a day for one week, apply topical 2 % Resorcinol (Resinol) (antiseptic) four times a day, or topical 0.1 % Tretinoin (Renova) (retinoids) twice daily, 20 % Azelaic acid (Azelex) (dicarboxylic acids) four times a day or 5 % Dapsone gel (Sulfone antibiotic) (Aczone) four times a day for one month.

Kindly consult a specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medications with their consent.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
