What are the best topical treatments for acne breakouts?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have recently developed multiple pustules on the middle of my eyebrows and chin, areas where I have never had acne before. In addition, I have noticed tiny bumps on my skin that might be related to this breakout. My skin was previously clear, but the breakout started after I tried a new product. What steps should I take to address these issues, and how can I treat or prevent further breakouts? Should I discontinue the new product, and what other skincare options should I consider?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Based on your symptoms and the photo provided, it seems you may be experiencing acne vulgaris or an acneiform eruption, which could be triggered by hormone imbalances or a new cosmetic product.

To address your breakout, I recommend the following:

  1. Minocycline 500 mg - Take 1 tablet three times a day for one week.
  2. Topical treatments:

2 percent Resorcinol – Apply once daily, or

0.1 percent Tretinoin – Apply twice daily, or

20 percent Azelaic acid – Apply once daily, or

5 percent Dapsone gel – Apply once daily, for 1 month.

Please let me know if you experience any itching or swelling, as these could be important for further assessment.

Feel free to follow up with any questions or concerns, either by scheduling a direct appointment or using chat, phone, or video consultation.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.
