Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had acne for the past four to five years. Despite being careful with my food choices and having the required amount of water, it does not go away. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Thank you for stopping by!

I am here to provide expert opinion on your medical issues.

I have seen your query and understand your concern. Firstly, you need to consult a dermatologist nearby to assess the grade and severity of acne. If acne is mild, topical anti-acne creams like Clindamycin or Adapalene will help. If acne is severe, oral medicines like Azithromycin or Doxycycline with or without Isotretinoin should be used along with anti-acne creams.

As a general treatment measure, I suggest the following:

1. Use a face wash for oily skin like Ahaglow or Cetaphil as a cleanser to wash your face.

2. Apply Clindamycin gel in the morning and Adapalene gel overnight over the acne lesions.

3. If having blackheads or whiteheads, I recommend getting these removed.

4. Avoid squeezing pimples, as it will leave a mark.

Follow these above measures for two weeks to see how much response you get. If the acne is of mild grade then, it will respond. But if not, it is of severe grade and oral medicine will be required.

I hope this information helps provide some insight into your symptoms.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thank you.
