What is the treatment for acne?
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have been trying lots of remedies and treatments for acne as I thought it was acne. I usually get a butterfly-shaped redness across my cheeks and nose bridge. I turned so red easily when I exercised, was shy, or embarrassed, and I had never had issues like this before until two years ago. There are a lot of bumps that keep appearing and most of the time it would not come to a head, like an underneath papule or pimple, and take about one to two weeks to disappear. Even without exercising, my cheeks are always pinkish. And, sometimes around my period, my face feels so hot and appears so red mainly on the cheeks and forehead, sometimes on the chin too. Whenever I stand beside my sisters, their faces are usually white or a little pinkish after they exercise. But mine is so red compared to them even without exercising. So, I did a lot of research on this and my best guess is papulopustular rosacea but I am still not 100 percent sure.
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
It seems you are thinking about the correct diagnosis, but lesions over the forehead look like acne only. The cause of it is solar damage which leads to vasomotor instability leading to erythema on the face and a tendency to flush easily. Take the following medications :
1. Take a capsule of Doxycycline 40 mg daily.
2. Apply Metronidazole 1 % gel at night, and Clindamycin gel during morning.
3. Neutrogena advanced plus sun spectrum lotion thrice daily on sun-exposed areas. All medicine should be taken after consulting your doctor.
4. Avoid hot tea, coffee, spicy food, and alcohol.
I hope this information will help you.
Thanks.
