Why am I getting acne even after using serums?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been suffering from acne, pimples, and dark spots for the past year. I have already used many products, including Adapalene, Benzoyl peroxide, and Salicylic acid serums, but the acne keeps coming back.

Please guide.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

I completely understand how frustrating and exhausting it can be to deal with acne and dark spots for an extended period, especially after trying numerous products without seeing real improvement. It sounds like you need a more structured, medical approach.

To help calm your skin and prevent new breakouts, I am prescribing the following medications:

  1. Tablet Doxycycline 100 mg: Take this once daily after food for the next six to eight weeks. Please ensure you are not pregnant or breastfeeding.

  2. Evening routine: Apply a pea-sized amount of Adapalene 0.1 % to your entire face for only one hour. Afterward, wash it off and moisturize. This will help reduce irritation.

  3. Pigmentation management: On alternate nights, apply a pea-sized amount of Azelaic Acid 10 to15 % to treat active acne and lighten dark spots.

  4. Morning routine: Every morning, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect your skin from sun exposure and prevent further pigmentation.

You should start to see improvements in your acne within three to four weeks. Please feel free to follow up if needed.

I hope this information helps with your query. Your feedback and ratings are valuable for improving patient care.

Thank you.
