Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am diagnosed with ADHD. I experience sudden bursts of energy which I usually expel by flexing my hands and making noises.

Please help.

Hello,

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for replying.

I tend to clench my fists and laugh or tense all my fingers until they shake. I make weird noises. It tends to happen when I get excited about something. If I cook food that I am excited to eat, I will sprint down the stairs as fast as I can with the food, making noises on the way down. I have been facing this problem since childhood.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

This symptom is suggestive of autistic traits. But there is another possibility of obsessive-compulsive anxiety that needs to be ruled out. Though more detailed evaluation is needed. This could be due to obsessive thoughts. It seems that thoughts of sudden excitement and energy come into your mind to get rid of these thoughts. You have to move your hands compulsively. These impulses are concerning you too, and this also favors anxiety. Autistic traits also sometimes show such symptoms. I have a few questions, do you have other thoughts on whether you have locked the car, bike, or even doors? Do you have any thoughts related to hygiene or repetitive hand washing?

Kindly follow up with the answers. I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for replying.

Many times, I suddenly start thinking about whether I have locked the door. I found myself absent-minded. I am obsessed with playing computer games and pressing the capslock key again and again. When I am alone, I start feeling sad. I start to become very introspective and question many things about myself. As for hygiene, I cannot stand the foul smell. I also wash my hands many times whenever I touch any food.

Please guide me.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It seems the symptoms you mentioned are a part of anxiety only. However, these are not autistic traits. Anxiety results in obsessive thoughts and compulsive actions. I suggest you consult a specialist for the same. I also suggest you take drugs like SSRIs (Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) for symptomatic relief. I suggest you are suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder. Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them and take the medications with their consent.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
