What are the ways to eliminate Amitriptyline from the body?

Hello doctor,

I have severe Amitriptyline poisoning and I basically have mitochondrial problems and I do not detox medicines well. This terrible medicine burned me from the inside. I tried to detox from it with 8 alpha lipoic acid IV and the unthinkable happened it polymerized in me and became a liquid glue in my body damaging me everywhere including my brain and skin. I cannot find help as it is so rare. I tried saline drips and vitamin C drips to detox. What should I do now? Please help.

The amitriptyline increases sympathetic activity in the body which shows toxic symptoms. This drug gets eliminated from the body within 2 to 3 days. Maximum, it takes five days to get eliminated from the body. So, even without any treatment, one can come back well. But, patients should be treated symptomatically. Since the drug reduces the blood pH, sodium bicarbonate should be injected to maintain the pH of the body. No other therapy is required.

Alpha lipoic acid should not be infused. Even though it is a good antioxidant, injecting is not advisable in regular practice. This can cause multiple organ damage, like liver, kidney, heart, brain, glucose metabolisms, etc. So treatment is as per the symptoms of the individual patient. Laboratory monitoring-based therapy will work. There are no specific antidotes available against this. This drug does not stay in the body for a longer period. Excess accumulated lipoic acid gets eliminated in a few days. So, until that period (maximum one week), the patient should be treated symptomatically.
