Amniotic Fluid

Amniotic fluid is the clear or yellow fluid present in the amniotic sac within 12 days of pregnancy. The amniotic fluid consists of water from the mother, urine of the baby, nutrients, hormones, antibodies, etc. This fluid protects the fetus, controls the temperature, controls infection, helps in the development of lungs and digestive system muscles, helps in lubrication, gives support to the umbilical cord, etc. The water breaks at the end of the first stage of the labor.
