Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My wife is pregnant at 32 weeks, 5 days. Her sonography report shows an AFI of 8.69 cm and the baby's weight at 1689 gm. Is it a normal condition or critical? Kindly answer.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern. The AFI (amniotic fluid index) is normal, but it is on the lower side. Therefore, I suggest that she take an Argipreg sachet (L-arginine and proanthocyanidin) twice daily in a glass of water. Also, encourage her to have coconut water and keep herself hydrated by drinking at least three liters of water per day. These measures will help in increasing the amniotic fluid levels. Regarding the baby's weight, it is slightly lower than the expected weight at this stage, as the baby is lacking two weeks of growth. To address this, she should focus on a protein-rich diet. If she is a vegetarian, she should consume more green leafy vegetables, fruits, and pulses. Additionally, she can add protein powder to milk and have it daily. These dietary adjustments will help the baby gain weight. Lastly, I suggest you undergo ultrasonography (USG) Doppler scan for further evaluation. I hope this information helps you. If you have any further queries, feel free to ask.
Regards.
