What could cause painful defecation and menstrual issues?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am an 18-year-old female, and every time, I poop, it hurts so bad, like it is gonna tear apart. I am on no medication. I am acidic and peptic, and I have irregular menstruation. I have not had menstruation this year. I do not eat every day; I only eat twice, and I think I have a UTI. Because every month my side hurts, I think I have a UTI.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
It sounds like you are experiencing painful bowel movements (possibly due to constipation or anal fissures), along with irregular periods, possible UTI (urinary tract infection) symptoms, and digestive issues.
Possible reasons for your painful pooping:
- Constipation and hard stools - If your stool is hard and dry, it can cause pain, tearing, or even small bleeding.
- Anal fissures – Small cuts around the anus due to straining.
- Dehydration and poor diet – Not eating enough, especially fiber-rich foods, can make stools hard and painful to pass.
- Gut issues (acidity and peptic problems) – Your digestive issues could affect your overall gut health.
- Drink more water – Aim for at least eight glasses daily to soften stools.
- Eat more fiber – Add fruits (bananas, papaya, apples), veggies, whole grains, and yogurt to help digestion.
- Try a stool softener – Natural remedies like warm lemon water or prune juice may help.
- Check for UTI – If you have burning pain while peeing, drink cranberry juice and lots of water, but see a doctor for a proper test.
- Regulate your periods – Eating regularly and taking a multivitamin with iron and folic acid might help.
Other concerns (irregular periods and UTI symptoms):
Skipping meals and poor nutrition can cause irregular menstruation. Possible UTI if you experience burning while peeing, frequent urination, or lower belly pain. What you can do right now:
When to see a doctor?
Suppose the pain does not improve after a week of changes, or if you see blood in your stool (bright red or dark black), or if you have severe stomach pain or fever (signs of UTI or digestive issues), or if your periods remain irregular for months.
Since you are young, fixing your diet and hydration might help a lot. But if your symptoms continue, seeing a doctor is a good idea. Would you like advice on easy meal ideas to help?
I hope this information helps you.
Revert in case of queries.
Regards.
