Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 43-year-old married woman, my height is 5'5", and my weight is 202.8 lbs. I have been having too much itching in my anal and vaginal area. What should I do?
I used to wash it properly on a regular basis and always use V-Wash to wash that area.
Please help me.
Hello,
Welcome to iciniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Persistent itching can be from yeast infection, bacterial vaginosis, dermatitis, pinworms, piles, diabetes, or irritation from soaps or washes. So, I suggest you do the following:
Stop V-wash for now (it can irritate, disturb pH). Use only plain water.
Wear cotton underwear, and keep the area dry.
Avoid scratching; apply mild soothing barrier cream (zinc oxide).
Below is a focused treatment approach and take these medications after consulting your doctor and see a doctor if symptoms persist:
Topical treatment with Clotrimazole one percent cream (antifungal), apply a thin layer to the vulva and anal area twice daily for one to two weeks.
Zinc oxide cream (barrier) is applied at night to protect the skin and reduce itching.
Hygiene measures involve washing only with lukewarm water and patting dry. Change to loose cotton underwear, and avoid tight clothes.
Oral treatment (if needed and after doctor consultation): Fluconazole 150 milligrams single dose for yeast infection. Deworming tablet such as Albendazole 400 milligrams single dose if itching mainly at night.
Test your fasting blood sugar or HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin) and get treated if high, because recurrent itching is common in cases with high blood sugar.
If you do not find relief in seven to 10 days, or if you notice discharge, bleeding, or swelling, see a gynecologist for a proper swab test and tailored meds.
If you notice discharge, bad smell, pain, or redness, then see a gynecologist for a vaginal swab and treatment. If anal itching persists at night, you should contact me.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
