Will toxic mold and bleach aerosol cause neurological signs?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was already having slight symptoms like weakness and balance issues before this ordeal but did not know why. One day in the shower, I saw what I looked up and discovered was a mold (I did not know anything about mold or its effects). It probably was there for a while. I did not understand it is dangerous, so I cleaned with bleach without a mask. Maybe it created a toxin cocktail that damaged my nervous system? Maybe the mold was behind my previous symptoms? I woke up in bad shape two days later after the cleaning with head pressure with facial weakness, vibrating, and weak sensations in my feet with weakness even worse in hands and legs. Would any of this be reversible if toxin peripheral neuropathy is, which I am sure it is? I know they say some kinds are more treatable than others, depending on the cause. I already have other conditions and cannot deal with this. I also suffer from terrible anxiety and depression.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that it is less likely that your symptoms are related to mold toxin or the bleach aerosol. You should know that many persons live in houses with a large amount of mold and do not have such complications.

On the other hand, bleach is a chemical used by many housewives, with no such complications, even without a mask (many cleaners or housewives do not use a mask). On the other hand, mold was just in the bathroom, and you do not spend much time in it.

To conclude, anxiety is playing a funny game with your body, simulating many symptoms, considering the information you have read on the internet. I recommend taking Valeriana supplements or Xanax three times daily to help improve your situation. If you are anxious, consulting with your GP for a physical exam would help exclude any serious medical problems and calm your mind.

I hope this helps.
