How to manage uncontrolled asthma despite taking steroids?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been struggling with asthma for years, but this past month, it has been really bad. I am 28 years old and using my inhaler more often than before. I have even started a course of steroids, but there has not been much improvement. Weather changes always make it worse for me, and now I feel like I am constantly short of breath. Is there anything else I can do to keep it under control? I keep hearing about biologic injections for asthma. Do those help? Also, I have been getting a lot of nighttime wheezing. Any tips to stop that? I am doing steaming, but it does not seem to work. Should I get allergy testing to see if something is triggering my asthma, or should I push for hospitalization or just manage at home?
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern.
I suggest you first undergo the following tests to assess the severity of the allergy and asthma:
-
Serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) test.
-
Eosinophil count.
-
Chest X-ray.
-
Pulmonary function test (PFT)
Biologics will be helpful only in cases with high immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels.
I hope I have resolved your query.
I will be happy to assist you further. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.
Thank you.
