How does Tezepelumab work?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 38-year-old reaching out about Tezspire for my severe asthma. I have been hospitalized three times this year despite being on Fasenra and maximum inhaler doses. The constant oral steroid courses are causing terrible side effects like mood swings, weight gain, and bone density concerns. My pulmonologist wants to switch me to Tezspire, but I need to understand the differences. How does the mechanism of action compare to other biologics? What is the typical response timeframe? Are there any specific monitoring requirements? I cannot keep missing work like this.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

The most common side effects of Tezspire (Tezepelumab) include: Sore throat, joint and back pain. These are not all the possible side effects. Tezspire is a prescription medicine used with other asthma medicines for the maintenance treatment of severe asthma in people 12 years of age and older whose asthma is not controlled with their current asthma medicine. Tezspire helps prevent severe asthma attacks (exacerbations) and can improve your breathing. Tezspire is not used to treat sudden breathing problems. Tell your healthcare provider if your asthma does not get better or if it gets worse after you start treatment with Tezspire.

It is not known if Tezspire is safe and effective in children under 12 years of age. So, you need to take your current asthma medicines along with Tezsprine.

I hope this helps.

Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.

Thank you.
