What are the common causes of back pain in teens?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 18 years old. My height is five feet and nine inches. Suddenly I feel pain in my back.

I think it is due to a gastric problem.

What should I do?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Gastric pain can be referred to back. So, antacids can be prescribed if you have gastric area abdominal pain, like in the left upper abdomen. Ultrasonography abdomen can be done for further workup if needed. If there is no improvement with antacid and USG (ultrasonography), then a detailed backache evaluation should be done to find other causes. You can investigate with a spine X-ray to do further workup. You can also check your serum calcium and vitamin D level, as they can be causative.

Thank you.
