Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

For the past few weeks, I have been having pain in the lower back right side, and to the right of the buttocks. It mainly happens when I bend backward. What could it be?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

So basically the area which you have described is the sacroiliac joint. This is a joint that connects our spine to the pelvis. Like we have strain in the ankle joint, we can have strain in this joint too. There are multiple reasons for pain in this joint. Tell me what you do and how much physical activity you have in your daily routine. What is your BMI? Any history of morning stiffness?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I do not have a very active job. I do not really do much physical activity, just some walking morning and evening. Not sure about my BMI but my height is 160 cm and my weight is 198.4 pounds. As for morning stiffness, I do not think so. I am able to get out of bed normally and move around fine.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

So you have all the risk factors for sacroiliac joint strain. You do not have much physical activity, that's why your core muscles are weak and your weight is more for your height, therefore the joint has to bear more stress. Now the treatment part consists of two things.

First, we have to reduce the inflammation right now. In that, you need to take anti-inflammatory medications. second, you need to strengthen your muscles which are basically our core muscles.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Is ankylosing spondylitis possible?

Answered by Dr. Anuj Gupta

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

That is why I asked you about morning stiffness. In ankylosing spondylitis, morning stiffness is the predominant symptom. If it is not there, then it is highly unlikely that you have it.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

What sort of anti-inflammatory medications do you recommend? And what core muscle exercises will help?

Answered by Dr. Anuj Gupta

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You can take Aceclofenac 100 mg twice a day or Ibuprofen 600 mg twice a day. Practice regular walking for 45 minutes at a stretch daily. Weight loss is very important.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
