What are the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi,

I am a 27-year-old female with a height of about 5 feet and a weight of about 73 kg. I have noticed that my vaginal discharge has had a fishy odor for the past few months. It is my first time experiencing this. It started about four months ago. I also experienced pain in my pelvic area during and after sex. I only have one long-term partner. And I do not have any medical records with me. Do you think I have bacterial vaginosis?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Yes, your symptoms suggest that you have bacterial vaginosis and mixed yeast infection.

I suggest you do the following tests-

1) Pap smear (Papanicolaou test) of vaginal discharge for microbiology.

2) Urine routine and culture test.

3) Tests for hemoglobin levels.

4) Thyroid profile.

Also, you need to take antibiotics, analgesics, and antihistamines along with douching of the vagina with an antiseptic solution and vaginal pessary.

Follow-up for further treatment.

Thank you.
