How does the collagen in fruits help to improve the skin?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 53-year-old female. I lost quite some weight recently, owing to an early menopause, as my doctors say. My skin has become dry, lacks luster, and is droopy. I read in a magazine that fruits have collagen, which can improve my skin. I want to understand this better. Please give me some advice on a diet, a fruit diet to be precise, and what fruits have the most collagen. How will such a diet improve my skin health?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Several studies highlight the role of collagen and peptides in reducing skin dryness and increasing the luster and elasticity of the skin. Collagen and peptides are now part of many topical creams and moisturizers and have been shown to reduce skin dryness and increase tone and elasticity in many of our clients. A recent study also showed a blend of collagen, peptides and acerola fruit extract with antioxidants, such as vitamin C, zinc, biotin, and a native vitamin E complex has been useful. An age-related reduction in collagen synthesis can be addressed by the administration of oral collagen peptides.

There is no specific fruit diet, but fruits high in antioxidants include citrus fruits. Although acerola cherry is hard to find, its extract is available in powder form, which is very nutritious and packed with vitamin C. Oral collagen supplements are also available, which help both skin, tissue, and bones. Along with a healthy diet, I would also recommend a good peptide-containing moisturizer along with regular sunscreen use during the day. and retinol-containing moisturizer or serum at night.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you have further queries.

Thank you.
