Do shooting pains in the tooth suggest a dental problem?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 34-year-old male. Lately, my gums have been bleeding every time I brush, and my teeth feel extremely sensitive. I have been experiencing shooting pains, making it uncomfortable to even enjoy a cup of hot coffee. I am desperate to understand what is happening, and how to remedy it. Despite regular brushing and flossing, it appears that things are deteriorating. Could this be indicative of a significant dental problem? What steps can I take to prevent further damage?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

You are experiencing gum disease, which is known as periodontitis. Alternatively, it could be gingivitis. Follow the below instructions:

  1. To cure it, you must visit your nearby dentist for scaling, root planing, and polishing.

  2. If any tooth has caries or cavities, kindly opt for restoration or filling.

  3. Perform gum massages regularly.

  4. Apply Rexidine M forty gel (Chlorhexidine, Metronidazole, and Lidocaine) to the affected gum areas for one week.

  5. Use RA Thermoseal (toothpaste) to alleviate sensitivity for one month.

  6. Use Chlorhexidine mouthwash after brushing your teeth both times for three months.

  7. Brush your teeth twice daily in the proper directions.

  8. However, visit your nearby dentist for scaling, root planing, and polishing.

I hope this information helps.

Thank you.
