The drooping of the eyelids are caused by various factors such as problem in the muscle strength, swelling of the eyelid, damage to the nerve controlling the eye muscles, an increase of fat and muscles in the eyelid due to aging, etc. Blepharoplasty is a surgery conducted to remove the excess fat and muscles in the eyelid to prevent drooping of the eyelid and to remove excess tissue in the lower eyelid interfering with the vision. Risks involved in the surgery are dry eyes, infection, bleeding, injury to eye muscles, etc.
