How are blood clots in the brain managed?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My brother has a blood clot at the left side of the brain in the temporo-occipital and posterior parietal lobes, with the largest size measuring 3.4 x 1.8 inches with no intraventricular extension. He is 21 years old, he is currently hospitalized, his height is 5.6 feet, and his weight is 99 pounds. His current medication involves a blood-thinning medicine, but it is not warfarin.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I read your query and understand your concern.

I am saddened to know that your brother suffered a significant brain hemorrhage or blood clot and still has serious symptoms. As per his MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) report (attachment removed to protect patient identity), I feel he needs intensive care treatment, as the prognosis remains guarded in such cases. There is a midline shift of brain structures suggesting severe damage. Since he is admitted to the hospital, I do not find any reason to intervene in ongoing treatment. If you are finding any problems or have unanswered questions, feel free to write back to me. I hope you find this helpful.

Thank you.
