Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a mother and want to ask about my baby's health. She is three months old. She has had diarrhea for six to seven days, but now there is blood in her poop. I want to ask what is the reason behind? Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

The child likely has some infection if there is blood in the stools. On the other hand, please note that it is normal for children under six months to pass stools 10 to 20 times a day or once in 2 to 3 days. Both are fine and are not labeled as constipation or diarrhea. Therefore, no treatment is required in such cases. Treatment is only required when there is documented fever, lethargy, or feeding refusal. However, treatment is required in your case as there is blood in your baby's stools. It is best to get the child evaluated physically by a pediatrician.

Hope this helps.

Thanks and take care.
