Hello doctor,
My 14-months-old baby had diarrhea for a few days three months ago. Since then, he has been passing soft or creamy stools. He was advised to take probiotics and a fruit-based diet (he does not drink milk because of the intolerance), but it did not make any difference. He is cheerful, and his growth is normal, but I do not know the problem. I think the problem is because of gluten or an intestinal mucosal injury. I am desperate to know the answer. Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Before giving any medication or thinking about sophisticated diseases, if you are feeding anything to the baby, be it milk or water from the feeding bottle, stop it immediately. Feed the baby using a cup and spoon, and loose stools will stop. This is based on a practical experience of treating a patient some time ago. If you argue that you sterilize the bottle and prepare the formula very carefully, you have to know that there are other bottle-related factors that cause diarrhea. Please stop bottle-feeding the baby altogether.
If he has lactose intolerance which you have mentioned as milk intolerance, please understand that there are preparations to neutralize lactose. Take care and update me on the progress of your condition.
Regards.
