Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am seeking assistance for my partner's current health condition. She has been experiencing blood in her stool for the past few weeks, accompanied by low energy levels. This is the third occurrence within the past year. She has a history of gastrointestinal (GI) problems, and anemia, and underwent a large intestine removal surgery seven years ago. Despite seeking medical help, including visits to the local hospital's emergency department and urgent care, we have yet to receive any results or a clear prognosis.
We are concerned about the lack of progress and the need for a comprehensive evaluation. We would greatly appreciate any advice on how to proceed in finding effective medical care and establishing a diagnosis.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thank you for your query.
Blood in the stool, especially when it keeps coming back, and with her history of colon surgery and anemia, must be properly checked. She definitely needs to see a gastroenterologist as soon as possible. The next step is to get a colonoscopy to look at the remaining intestine and know where the bleeding is coming from. Blood tests should also be done to check how low her hemoglobin is.
If the bleeding is heavy, if she feels dizzy or faints, or if the weakness is getting worse, please take her straight to the emergency room. Otherwise, push for a specialist appointment and ask directly for a colonoscopy.
Thank you.
