Hi doctor,

I think my prescription is wrong. My glasses are giving me blurred vision. I think my axes are wrong, one is 90 and the other is 20. Please help.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

The axis controls the angle of cylindrical correction for astigmatism. Even a small error (especially a big difference like 20 degrees versus 90 degrees) can cause blur, eye strain, or distortion. Your sphere and cylinder values are identical in both eyes, but the big axis difference means the orientation of astigmatism correction is different in each eye. If one axis is wrong, your brain will struggle to fuse the images from both eyes, causing blur and discomfort.

Another possibility is PD (pupillary distance) mismatch—your current PD of 33 mm per eye means 66 mm total, but if this is off from your true measurement, it can also cause blur. What you should do:

1. Recheck the prescription – Visit your optometrist or ophthalmologist for a retest, ideally with a trial frame to confirm clarity.

2. Confirm axis accuracy – Even a five to 10-degree error can cause symptoms; a 70-degree difference between eyes should be double-checked.

3. Check your PD – Make sure it was measured accurately for the type of glasses you are wearing.

4. Consider adaptation period – Sometimes it takes one to two weeks for your eyes to adjust to a new prescription, but big axis changes usually need rechecking.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
