Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My 14-month-old daughter was feeling very warm. She had a temperature of 100.7 degrees Fahrenheit. Should I be worried?
Please guide.
Thanks in advance.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Body temperature of 100.7 degrees Fahrenheit (38.2 degrees Celsius) is indicative of fever and could be caused by an infection caused by bacteria or a virus.
It is advisable to ensure that she gets lots of fluids, continues eating, and wears light clothes. She can take paracetamol at intervals of six hours if need be. Observe her activity levels, urinary output, and respiration.
In case the fever persists beyond 48 hours, exceeds 101.2 degrees Fahrenheit (39 degrees Celsius), or if she develops signs such as lethargy, respiratory distress, persistent vomiting, poor feeding, convulsions, or less wet diapers, she should be taken for emergency medical care.
Besides, since she weighs 16 pounds at 14 months old, it would be useful to assess her growth during the next visit.
She should be seen again after two days if her symptoms persist or in one week if her symptoms have improved.
Hope the above information helps you.
Best Regards.
