Bone Mineral Density Test

As the name indicates, a bone mineral density test is done to measure the amount of bone minerals like calcium, phosphorus, and other minerals to diagnose osteoporosis' risk or presence. It is also known as dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). DEXA is of two types central and peripheral. In central DEXA, the mineral density of the hip and spine are detected. Mineral density of limbs are detected in peripheral DEXA. People with a family history of osteoporosis, low body weight, rheumatoid arthritis, thyroid disorders, menopausal women, etc., can undergo this as a part of their regular screening tests.
