Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My wife had a cesarean delivery, and she is also breastfeeding. Before delivery, her liver function test was quite disturbed, with increased SGOT, SGPT, ALP, high bilirubin, and severe itching. After delivery, LFT was done, and many things were well-controlled. She was under antibiotic painkillers and other medications till the last nine days of cesarean delivery. Currently, she takes iron and calcium tablets only.
For the last five days, she has had red bumps on both hands from fingers to elbow without itching. What medicines can be given during breastfeeding? Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
I have reviewed the image (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). t looks like a rash secondary to some allergy.
I recommend using Lactocalamine lotion (local application) two to three times a day. If the rash does not subside after applying lotion, consult a physician immediately.
I hope this helps.
Thank you and take care.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
She also has a fever, presently 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit. What medicine can be given? Can she breastfeed with a fever?
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Yes, she can breastfeed. For fever, I suggest taking the tablet Paracetamol. However, please consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them and start taking the medications with their consent.
I hope this helps.

Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
Her fever is rising even after taking the tablet Paracetamol. Finally, it goes up to 101.5 degrees Fahrenheit. What should be done now? Can tablet Azithromycin be given?
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
First, we need to find out the cause of the fever.
I do not recommend self-medicating with antibiotics (Azithromycin). Moreover, the tablet Azithromycin is not recommended while breastfeeding.
Please consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them and start taking the medications with their consent.
I hope this helps.
Thank you and take care.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
Can she breastfeed with a high fever of around 102 degrees Fahrenheit? Is there any condition when she needs to stop breastfeeding?
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Yes, she can breastfeed.
The mother must get rest. If she feels tired or low on energy due to a fever, she should avoid that case.
The physical well-being and mental well-being of the mother is essential for breastfeeding.
If she is not feeling better or sick, the baby can be given formula feed for the time being.
I hope this helps.
Thank you and take care.
