This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My baby's weight is 7.27 pounds and is in its 34th week, and its position is breech. My doctor suggested operating on it as early as possible. What should I do?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to iciniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I understand your concern. It would be better if you would send me a detailed obstetric history, scans, and other details, then it would be more beneficial. Is the calculated weight and estimation of the scan normal? If yes, then the time is not nice to have a cesarean if not any other emergency, there are like placenta previa, heavy bleeding, preeclampsia, abnormal fetal hearts, etc. It would be better to wait if just a breech presentation and a suspected big baby are diagnosed.

You should walk daily and healthy diet with less salt and sugar. It might be possible that the baby changes its position. Or if you have no previous cesarean, abdominal surgery, preeclampsia, placenta previa, or any other contraindications, then she can have an external cephalic version for breech to change to vertex under ultrasound and senior supervision, and wait till 37 weeks with proper monitoring to have no real delivery. Premature cesarean section can give complications not only now but also in the next pregnancy and delivery.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
