Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 47-year-old male. I am a known case of bronchiectasis since childhood. Is there any new treatment? Or new interventions for the best quality of life?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. I can understand your concern. Yes, a new pulmonary antioxidant is available. May I know his current medications? Is PFT (pulmonary function test) report done or not?

Patient's Query

Thank you dcotor,

Really I did not know his medication or pulmonary function test (PFT) report. Can you tell me more about pulmonary antioxidants and is it available in UAE?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. You did not undergo pulmonary function test (PFT) before? How can this be possible? To know the severity of lung function reduction by bronchiectasis, PFT is a must. And treatment is based on PFT severity only. I am talking about Picnovit from Sun pharma. It is available in India, do not know about UAE. May I know which medications you are taking at present? I doubt you are not taking any appropriate treatment.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Currently, he is not on regular medication as he is stable. Can you tell me more about this therapy? How it is done? Is it invasive? What is the duration and benefit for the patient? Is there is any risk? I am asking these doubts for my sister's husband. I did not have any PFT report.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. I can understand your concern. He should first consult a pulmonologist. Get done PFT (pulmonary function test) to identify the severity of lung function compromise. He will need mucolytic (N-acetyl cysteine), inhaled bronchodilators (Formoterol or Salmeterol), Anti-oxidant (Picnovit). It is not an invasive therapy. He should take these drugs for lifelong with no risk.

Patient's Query

Thank you dcotor,

Can I have evidence based resources for the use of Picnovit for bronchiectasis?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. Well, You can search on the internet about pine bark extract Picnovit (pulmonary antioxidant). You will get many references. Actually, it is useful and indicated in all chronic lung diseases like bronchitis, asthma, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), ILD (interstitial lung disease), bronchiectasis, etc.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
