Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Despite consistently exercising for the past five years, I have not been able to gain muscle. At 25 years old and standing at 5 feet 10 inches with a weight plateaued at 121 pounds, I am concerned about my thin and underweight appearance. A bodybuilder suggested considering DHEA or testosterone to address this issue, hinting that I may have reached my genetic limit for natural muscle gain. However, I hesitate about these methods due to their potentially harmful effects and short-term nature. I am seeking advice on safe, natural methods for increasing testosterone levels without negative consequences. I have tried various diets (vegetarian) and regular resistance training without success. Recent testosterone, LH, and FSH tests returned normal (attached file). Any insights would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Genetic factors can play a role in weight maintenance for some individuals. I suggest some dietary changes to support testosterone levels:
Include healthy fats such as avocados, nuts (like almonds, walnuts, and pistachios), seeds (like flaxseeds, chia seeds, and pumpkin seeds), and oils (such as olive oil and coconut oil). These fats are involved in the synthesis of testosterone precursors.
Choose a protein-rich diet, including lentils, chickpeas, beans, tofu, tempeh, paneer (cottage cheese), Greek yogurt, and cottage cheese. This supports muscle mass and testosterone synthesis.
Ensure an adequate intake of fiber from vegetables (like broccoli, spinach, and Brussels sprouts), fruits (like berries, apples, and oranges), whole grains (like oats, brown rice, and quinoa), and legumes (like lentils, chickpeas, and black beans). Fiber aids in hormone regulation and digestion.
Consume foods rich in zinc and magnesium, both essential for testosterone production. Sources include kidney beans, seeds, nuts, and edamame.
I suggest taking supplements such as vitamin D and zinc to support testosterone levels.
Avoid processed foods, canned items, and added sugar to your diet.
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
Additionally, plan for a TFT (thyroid function test) and review the reports for further evaluation.
I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Hi doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
Sure, doctor. I will provide an update shortly. I have begun taking a daily DHEA supplement at 50 mg and have noticed some slight changes. Would you recommend continuing this dosage, or should I consider adjusting it?
Thank you.
