Is a wart-like bump on the glans serious?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a wart-like growth on the glans of my penis. I have been using a silicone masturbator for several months, and there were times when I used it without any lubrication. It was during that time that I developed this bump, and now it has been three months, but it still has not gone away.

I have used T-Bact and Siloderm, but I have seen no improvement. The bump is not painful, and it is not large either.

Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your situation, and your fear is entirely valid. Penile lesions can cause a lot of anxiety, but it is important to note that most bumps on the glans are benign and treatable.

Based on what you have described and the photo you shared (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), it appears you have warty growths that resemble a cauliflower; this is most consistent with a condition known as genital warts (condyloma acuminata).

These warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). Please try not to panic; genital warts are benign (non-cancerous) and very treatable, especially when they are small and detected early.

They are usually painless and may persist for months if left untreated. They do not respond to antibiotics or over-the-counter creams, which is why T-Bact (Mupirocin 2 %) and Siloderm (Calamine, Dimethicone, and Zinc Oxide) have not been effective.

At this stage, the appropriate course of action is procedural treatment rather than self-medication. Treatment options include cryotherapy (freezing), electrocautery, or radiofrequency ablation. These procedures are quick and effective when performed correctly.

Please avoid using over-the-counter wart removers on the glans, as they can lead to burns and scarring in this sensitive area. I do not recommend topical medications, as they often contain harsh ingredients that can harm the delicate penile skin.

Until you receive treatment, it is essential to avoid sexual contact, refrain from picking or scratching the lesion, and minimize friction or trauma to the area.

If you have a sexual partner, it is crucial to inform them and encourage them to get examined as well. After treatment, follow-up care is essential because warts can recur.

Most importantly, this condition is manageable and not dangerous. Many young patients recover completely with proper care. Please consult a dermatologist or a venereologist in person for definitive treatment.

I hope this guidance helps you. Please feel free to share your feedback or progress, as it helps us improve patient care. Thank you for reaching out.
