Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have had a small bump on the shaft of my penis for approximately a year and a half and have been unable to determine what it is. It causes no pain or itching and does not appear to have changed in size. I was recently tested for STIs, and all results were negative. I am hoping to get some insight into what this might be.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Based on what you said, a bump on the shaft of the penis that has been there for over a year and a half without hurting, itching, or changing size. Along with a recent negative 10-panel sexually transmitted disease (STD) test, it is not likely to be contagious or sexually transmitted. Since the bump has stayed the same over time, it shows up after shaving. It could be a harmless condition like a sebaceous cyst, an ingrown hair, or Fordyce spots, which are visible sebaceous glands and are completely safe. People often mistake these for pimples because they are so common.
If the sore is smooth, flesh-colored, not red, and not spreading, it probably is not something to worry about. A dermatologist or urologist should look at it, though, if it starts to bleed, hurt, or become ulcerated. This is to make sure it's not something else, like white penile papules or, very rarely, a benign skin tumor.
For now, avoid cutting too hard and use warm compresses if irritation happens. If the lesion stays steady and doesn't cause any symptoms, it usually doesn't need any treatment.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
