Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am deeply concerned about my mom, who is currently battling bone cancer and experiencing significant pain. I want to support her in feeling better.
I want to ask the following questions:
Are there specific medications that can help alleviate her pain?
Additionally, how can we enhance her quality of life during this difficult time?
Are there special treatments or considerations we should be aware of due to the nature of bone cancer?
Currently, she is taking Cosmegan (Dactinomycin) and Methotrexate. Her pain is severe, impacting her ability to walk normally, and she relies on painkillers for relief. The bone cancer is at stage 2 in the tibia.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Bone cancer renders bones fragile, heightening the risk of fractures. To strengthen and prevent fractures, patients typically receive monthly bisphosphonate injections, along with treatment for the primary tumor.
In many cases, bone cancer is secondary metastasis, originating from other organs like the breast, prostate, etc. If the patient is on methotrexate, it may suggest osteosarcoma. In stage 2 osteosarcoma, the primary treatment involves chemotherapy and radical surgery, with some patients requiring radiation therapy.
Considering the complex nature of bone cancer, my final advice would be to thoroughly review your mom's reports, including the pathology report, to tailor the treatment plan accordingly.
I hope this information will help you.
Kindly revert in case of further queries.
